The Classic Mint Julep
We’re sure it’s no surprise that the Kentucky Derby is one of our favorite occasions to celebrate. Among the many popular race day traditions that we enjoy (such as sporting extravagant floppy hats and admiring rose bouquets), it’s unmistakably that mix of bourbon and mint that make up the classic Mint Julep that we love the most.
Mint Juleps are one of the most traditional, alcoholic beverages of the Kentucky Derby. The sweet, bourbon based drink is commonly served in a silver high ball glass over shaved ice. Of course, we prefer to forgo the dirty dishes after Derby Day by serving in our luxe cups!
To prepare beverage:
- Add small handful of mint leaves and 1 teaspoon sugar (or substitute with Simple Syrup) into the bottom of our 12 oz. luxe cups. Gently press the mint leaves into the bottom of the glass with the back of a spoon.
- Fill and pack glass with ice – preferably shaved ice, however we used regular ice cubes and worked just the same!
- Pour your choice of bourbon over the ice, add 1-2 mint sprigs for garnish at the top of the cup and enjoy!
Notes: Recipe inspired and adapted from The Blonde Cook.
Our Luxe Cups are round at the top and squared at the bottom, making them the perfect plastic glass for holding and sipping. Once guests are done with their drinks, they may simply toss the cups away or place in the sink to be hand washed for reuse!
